Golf Queensland announce
2008 State Teams
An exciting mixture of seasoned representatives
and upcoming talent has been named in Queensland’s
state teams for 2008. Following the unification of
the Queensland Golf Union and Women’s Golf Queensland
in July 2007, this year’s representative season
will be the first time that Queensland’s state
Men’s, Women’s and Colt’s teams will
travel as an individual unit to contest the National
Teams Championships in Sydney from 1 to 5 September.
Women’s representatives Michelle
Coetzee and Samantha Holt join champion 2008 Queensland
Junior team member Jacki Marshall as newcomers to
the 2008 Women’s Team, who will begin this year’s
Championship as defending champions after last year’s
victory at Barwon Heads Golf Club in Victoria. The
Queensland Women’s side, who will defend their
title at Pymble Golf Club, will be managed by Golf
Queensland Vice President Carmel Smith and coached
by Glen Gammon.
Tim Hart will represent Queensland for the first time
Added to the Men’s Team are former Queensland
Colt’s representatives Gavin Fairfax, Peter Hall
and Scott Smith, along with Tim Hart who will be representing
Queensland for the first time having previously represented
New South Wales as a junior. Queensland won the last
of its Men’s Interstate titles in 2004 in Brisbane
and will face stiff competition from New South Wales
who have taken the Men’s title for the past three
years. Last year’s manager / coach combination
of Ian Read and Garry Calder have again been appointed
for the 2008 Men’s Interstate Series which will
be contested at Monash Country Club.
Representing Queensland for the first time are Colt’s
Justin Barry and Cameron Powell, who will be joined
by former Australia Boy’s Amateur champion Eagle
Chang, who has made the step up to the Colt’s
side after four successful years as a Queensland junior
representative. The Colt’s team will be managed
by Don Palmer and coached by Richard Harris.
Also traveling with the three teams will be Yoga coach
Diann Hogg, who has worked with Golf Queensland and
the Queensland Academy of Sport over the last 2 years.
