Queensland State Junior Golf Team Selected
The
most accomplished and in form junior male golfers in Queensland
have been selected to represent the State in the upcoming
Australian Boys' Amateur Championship and the Australian
Boys' Interstate Teams Matches in Victoria.
The 2008 Team will take a mix of both experienced and fresh
faced players to the south, in an effort to win back the
title after finishing just shy of New South Wales last year
in Perth. The two standouts in this year's team who will
bring an invaluable combined six years of interstate series
experience to Victoria are Daniel Nisbet and Eagle Chang.
Their impressive details are as follows:
- Daniel Nisbet (Home Club - Caboolture,
Age - 17) - Two-time winner of the Queensland
Junior Championship and two-time Australian Junior Order
of Merit winner.
- Eagle Chang (Oxley, 17) - 2005 Australian
Junior Champion, 2007 Greg Norman Junior
Masters winner, and two-time Queensland Schoolboys champion.
It should be noted that both Nisbet and Chang will appear
in their 4th consecutive Australian Boys' Interstate Series,
having first represented their State at the amazing age
of 14.
Completing the 2008 team are four debutants, Christopher
Wood (Wynnum, 17), Chris Mann (Hills International,
17), Nathan Kinch (Surfers Paradise, 16) and Simon
Worrall (Twin Waters, 16) who have all emerged from
the highly successful Queensland Development Squad.
This new crop of fresh faced players just proves how strong
junior golf is in Queensland, and they are now faced with
great responsibility as Queensland holds a solid track record
in recent times, winning three of the last six series.
Tom Crothers and Mark Gibson will again fill the respective
roles of Manager and Coach.
Queensland also boasts an almost intimidating record going
into the Australian Boys' Championship which is contested
this year at the Spring Valley Golf with 9 of the past 11
champions reigning from Queensland.
Traveling with the Junior Boy's State Team, are two Junior
Development Team players selected by Golf Queensland - Aaron
Wilkin (Wynnum, 14) and Cameron Smith (Wantima, 14) who
will both contest the Australian Boys' Championship.
The Australian Boys' Championship will be contested at
the Spring Valley Golf Club from 26th - 28th March, and
the Australian Boys' Interstate Teams Matches will be played
at Peninsula Country Golf Club from the 31st March - 3rd
April.
