Keating wins Queensland Women's Stroke Play Championship
21 year old Victorian golfer Stacey Keating (Victoria) took
out the Queensland Women's Stroke Play Championship by 5 strokes
from Ellie Na (Royal Pines). Keating started the day 9 strokes
in front but when she double bogied the par 4 12th and also
dropped a shot on the 13th things started to tense up a little
as Na picked up two shots on the same holes.

Keating's experience over the later stages
of the round proved too much for 14 year old Na. Keating's
scores of 70, 69, 71, 75 (285) three under for the tournament
which included a new course record on day 2 were far too consistent
for her fellow competitors. Na finished 70, 74, 75, 71 (290)
2 over with defending champion Bree Arthur (Brookwater) 73,
75, 73, 71 (292) in third place.
Local Rowes Bay player Lauren Freeman won the 72 hole Nett
event with a total of 284 from Ash McCourt (Redcliffe).
14 year old Rowes Bay junior Fiona Bell scored a resounding
victory yesterday in the Queensland Women's 54 Hole Stroke
Play Championship. Bell's score of 89, 88, 85 (262) was 8
shots ahead of her nearest rival Leonie Attlee (Townsville)
86, 95, 89 (270) with Jacinta Foley (Townsville) a further
shot away.

Townsville Golf Course was presented in excellent condition
and proved a real challenge for all players especially in
today's very strong windy conditions. Golf Queensland would
like to thank the club for hosting the Championships.
