2008 GQ Women's Fourball
President's Cup

31st March 2008
Jenny Smith and Julie Ford win President's Cup

After an overwhelming response, the 2008 GQ Women's Fourball (President's Cup) got under way at North Lakes Resort Golf Club today. Golf Queensland received a record number of entries this year, which meant two shotgun starts were needed to ensure that everyone had the opportunity to play at the always beautiful North Lakes Resort Golf Club.

The record 192 players were split into a morning and afternoon field, with each field having its own competition, and the overall nett winners of the day winning the perpetual trophy.

A home club advantage proved invaluable for Jenny Smith (North Lakes) and her partner Julie Ford (Royal Queensland) who both played some impressive golf in the morning to get their hands on the perpetual trophy after shooting a nett round of 64 (-9).

Two shots further back from Smith and Ford in the morning field competition and placed runner-up was Suzanne Cash (Wantima) and Margaret Lister (Wantima) who fired a commendable nett 66 (-7). The gross winners from the morning field on a count back were Liz Gassner (Caboolture) and Dorothy Kahler (Caboolture) who put together an 87 (+14).

The afternoon nett winners were Dell Groundwater (Gympie Pines) Maree Lewis (Gympie Pines) who unfortunately fell one shot shy of the daily winners with a nett score of 65 (-8). A further two shots back were Carmel Smith (Horton Park) and Wendy O'Connell (Wantima) on 67 (-6). The gross winners of the afternoon competition were Cassandra Elsden (Ipswich) and Wendy Patch (Ipswich) who took advantage of the perfect weather and playing conditions with a gross 78 (+5).

The North Lakes Resort Golf Club was in exceptional condition with nothing but praise from the players who took to the course. Golf Queensland is very grateful for North Lakes Resort Golf Club's hospitality and support of this event and is pleased to announce that the event will return to this venue in 2009!
