The Role of District Golf Associations

The fourteen District Golf Associations (and three Patron Clubs) are the members of the QGU. It is primarily these Associations that the QGU aims to represent in its activities. They also serve as the conduit between the QGU and the 250-plus affilaited clubs in the State.

Each of these District Golf Associations are Incorporated Associations in their own right, and conduct their own affairs. They are all served by an elected Committee, a few with a paid secretariat.

All of the Associations conduct and/or oversee tournament programs in their local area, while most conduct their Championship events and Pennant competitions. The District Golf Associations also play a significant role in the development of talented golfers in their area. Many conduct Talented Junior Identification Programs which are funded by the QGU, while most conduct some form of junior development programs.

Each District Golf Association has representation (Delegate(s)) at QGU level. These Delegates are elected or appointed by the Association, and meet three times each year - usually in Brisbane.

From these Delegates a Management Committee is elected. Thus the QGU is representive of golfers across the State.
